The Chemistry of Rhenium

"The real green chemistry"

In the Schachner group we are mainly exploring the chemistry of Rhenium. Re itself is not biologically relevant, there are no Re-dependant enzymes known, but due to its position in the peridoc table, there are many similarities to Molybdenum, which is bio-relevant (diagonal relationship). In analogy to Mo, also Re can catalyze oxygen atom transfer (OAT) reactions. In our research, we are especially interested in the chemistry of oxidorhenium(V) complexes, which do catalyze a variety of different OAT reactions.
